Prof. Ken J. Ishii serves as the Director of the International Vaccine Design Center (vDESC) and the Professor in the Division of Vaccine Science at the Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo (IMSUT). He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Laboratory of Vaccine Science at the WPI Immunology Frontier Research Center (IFREC) at Osaka University. He also serves as a member of scientific advisory committees for global and national funding agencies such as CEPI, GHIT, AMED, JST, JSPS, and institutions like IVI.
His team conducts clinical trials of novel biologicals, including vaccines and gene therapies, and engages in regulation, policy development, and public outreach via media. Prof. Ishii is particularly interested in the application of vaccines and gene therapy for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases and cancer. Additionally, he explores the role of immune modulation in improving therapeutic outcomes and advancing immunotherapies. His work aims to bridge basic immunology with clinical applications, contributing to the development of safe and effective vaccines for global health challenges.
