A fresh look at classic immunology through the perspective of extracellular vesicles

Prof. Edit Buzás is the Professor and Chair of the Department of Genetics, Cell-, and Immunobiology at Semmelweis University. She received her medical degree (MD) from the University of Szeged. She later pursued further academic qualifications, earning a PhD, DSc, and Med. Habil. In 2019, she received the Széchenyi Prize for her exceptional contributions to the study of the structure and function of extracellular vesicles, as well as her work in immunology education. In 2022, she was elected President of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV) for a term lasting until 2024.

Her earlier research focused on T-cell immunology, autoimmunity, and the development of autoimmune arthritis. Since 2005, Prof. Buzás has been exploring the isolation, structure, standardization, and functional properties of extracellular membrane vesicle populations, including their potential as biomarkers and therapeutic tools.
