The immunology of sickness metabolism caused by a viral infection
Prof. Bojan Polić is a Professor of Immunology and Vice Dean for Research and PhD Programs at the University of Rijeka, Croatia, where he earned his medical degree and PhD. He completed postdoctoral training with Prof. Klaus Rajewsky at the University of Cologne, focusing on the αβ T cell receptor’s role in T cell maintenance. He served as Head of the Histology & Embryology Department (2007–2013) and established Croatia’s first Specific Pathogen Free animal research institute (LAMRI). He is currently the President of the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS). He has received multiple honors, including the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts Award (2012) and the Croatian State Award for Science (2002). Additionally, he serves on the editorial board of Frontiers in NK Cell Biology.
Professor Polić’s research interests include immune responses in insulin resistance, Type 2 diabetes, and viral infections, as well as the biological roles of the NKG2D receptor. He also investigates the immunology of sickness metabolism and how immune responses influence metabolic changes during illness.
